I've been travelling with Captain Cruise quite a few times and have always been happy to do so. This trip between Perth and Fremantle is a lovely relaxing and beautiful trip whether you choose a return trip or just from one end to the other.
We did the round trip sightseeing cruise from Perth to Fremantle & back again. It's the same boat as the lunch cruise which is served on the main deck and the sightseers are on the first deck. The staff were very friendly and once we were on board, the passengers on the first deck were left to enjoy the view. As we'd booked a return trip, we weren't allowed off the boat once we got to Fremantle and if we were to do the trip again, we would have only booked one way so we could get off and explore. Luckily we'd explored a fair bit of Fremantle in the days prior to the cruise. Definitely recommend a cruise down the river to enjoy Perth from another angle. The crew shared lots of local info along the way which made the trip interesting.
Not being a real fan of cruising, I was a bit hesitant to voyage from Barrack Street Jetty to Fremantle when my brother suggested it. However, my experience from start to finish with Captain Cook Cruises changed my mind and the experience worth it. The one hour and fifteen minute, one-way journey to Fremantle, seemed to fly (sail?) by as we got to enjoy a unique perspective of the Perth Skyline from the water and took in unobstructed views of downtown Perth, elegant homes (mansions), parks and marinas along the Swan River all whilst listening to the Captains' detailed and entertaining commentary.
I left from Perth and when I booked had to chose how long I wanted to spend in Freeo. The options were something like 2 hours, 6 hours or 8 hours, there was no middle ground so I ended up doing the 2 hour version. I spoke to a couple on my boat who'd gone for the same option and we all felt at the end that it wasn't enough time to properly see the place, you had to have one eye on the time the whole time so it was a bit stressful. I got a taste of Freeo though. The boat rides were both pleasant, with interesting commentary and on the return journey a free wine sample (thimble size though!) Crew were friendly enough and it all went smoothly, just disappointing choice of departure and return times.
Interesting experience riding with the same company two days in a row - we went to Rottnest the day before and on this Perth to Freemantle cruise the next day. As a person with disabilities who uses a wheelchair, the experience on the first cruise was EXCELLENT on how I was treated - there were ramps all the way along for me to get on and off the boat. This cruise was NOT accessible - there was a ramp up to the boat however one had to go over a high sill to get into the boat. Now, on the outbound, I could see they were boarding the boat fast, however on the inbound they KNEW I was on the boat and should have put an additional ramp down so I did not have to go over the sill.
Having visited Freemantle several times before by road we thought a 75min cruise on the river would be a pleasant enough way to travel down & then return by train. All started off OK with some historical & wildlife commentary but that descended into who has the most obscene amount of money to spend on mostly a ghastly architectural monstrosity, which means $$$ does not = taste. So glad I am poor. No mention of the container rainbow approaching Freemantle but at least we were spared how many rivets were used in each bridge. The bar provides a range of drinks, however, we were to find out that a flat white (a stupid description, I would like a short black or is that not PE ??) simply meant a coffee with a splodge of milk from the fridge, oh well it was not overpriced. Despite this I would still recommend the trip, at some times maybe with ear plugs.
