Visit Queen Victoria Market
Queen Victoria Market is Victoria's premier open-air market. Sitting on 2 city blocks, its also the largest open air Market in the Southern Hemisphere. The friendly competition between stallholders, their passion for that they do, and their interaction with customers is what gives the Market its Old World charm and the addictive power to draw millions of visitors each year. Visitors, who come not only to shop, can be entertained by buskers who perform on the surround. The vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere of this historic site has endeared the Market to Melburnians for over 130 years.
The Market is probably best known for its huge variety of fresh produce. Almost 50% of the Market area is dedicated to the sale of fresh produce, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, chicken, seafood and delicatessen products.
The Market is on numerous tram routes, and close to two train stations. Tram Access: Catch any tram heading north along Elizabeth and William Streets, and alight at either the Franklin or Victoria Street corners. Melbourne's free City Circle tram will also help you on your way. Hop off at the corner of La Trobe and either Elizabeth or Queen Streets, then walk north to the Market. Train Access: The Market is within easy walking distance of Melbourne Central Station (Elizabeth Street exit) and Flagstaff Station (corner Latrobe and William Streets).
