INFORMATION ABOUT MARITIME MUSEUM OF TASMANIA

Maritime heritage comes to life in the Maritime Museum where historic artefacts and objects combine with interpretive displays to uncover fascinating stories of the past. Tasmania’s history from the earliest inhabitants, through the period of European settlement until the present day is represented in the island’s largest and most varied maritime collection.
Oral histories and films illustrate everyday life on trading barges, whaleboats and ferries. The ship models, paintings, early navigational instruments and displays of historic dinghies and shipbuilding will draw you into the glorious era of sail.

The Museum’s nautical bookshop stocks Tasmania’s best range of nautical publications. Nautical themed gifts are also available.
The Maritime Museum is centrally located in the Carnegie Building, 16 Argyle Street, adjacent to Constitution Dock, the heart of Hobart’s historic waterfront and a short walk from Salamanca.
