INFORMATION ABOUT OLD DUBBO GAOL

With a history spanning over 150 years from 1847-1966, the Old Dubbo Gaol is a snap-shot in time of a bygone era. Home to a large display of animatronic models and holographic displays which provide a realistic and fascinating insight into the hardships of prison life.

Viewing this unique collection of 19th century buildings and artefacts, learning the stories of prison life, and entering the pitch blackness of the dark cell will be certain to send a chill up your spine. Old Dubbo Gaol also holds NSW’s only complete Hangman’s Kit, and a state of the art holographic exhibition which is based on the NSW Executioner Robert ‘Nosey Bob’ Howard and the art of hanging.

For the kids; our exciting Super Sleuth Challenge and many school holiday activities are sure to keep the kids entertained.
Live theatrical performances which occur regularly are fantastic fun ways of getting a first-hand look at prisoners trying to escape.
Group bookings are also available for guided or self-guided tours.
 

HOW TO GET TO OLD DUBBO GAOL

Old Dubbo Gaol is located at 90 Macquarie Street Dubbo between the Commonwealth Bank and the Clock Tower. There is an animated character on the street named “Ben Stokes”, he will show you where the gates are.
