INFORMATION ABOUT QUEENSLAND ART GALLERY / GALLERY OF MODERN ART

The Queensland Art Gallery is Queensland's premier visual arts institution and a leading art museum nationally. The Gallery's driving philosophy is to connect art and people.

Since opening in 1982, the Gallery's collection, exhibitions, audiences and programs have grown in size, complexity and diversity. To cater for the community's future needs, a second building, the Gallery of Modern Art, opened in December 2006.

Situated at Kurilpa Point only 150 metres from the Queensland Art Gallery building, the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) focuses on the art of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

The two-site Gallery is well known for its flagship Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art Series, a major event on the national and international arts calendar and its presentation of successful international exhibitions including ‘Andy Warhol’, ‘Picasso & his collection’, ‘Valentino, Retrospective: Past/Present/Future’ and ‘Surrealism: The Poetry of Dreams’.

The Gallery delivers innovative museum-based learning programs for children through its dedicated Children’s Art Centre, and its Australian Cinémathèque presents regular retrospective and thematic film programs.
