INFORMATION ABOUT KATHERINE GORGE

A visit to Darwin is not complete without a visit to the world famous Katherine Gorge. Known by the aboriginal name Nitmiluk, a cruise through Katherine Gorge is just amazing. The Gorge is located in Nitmiluk National Park and is one of the most spectacular areas in the country, winding 12 km with walls more than 70m high. The 13 wonderful gorges of Nitmiluk National Park began 23 million years ago as torrents of water pouring along tiny cracks in the earth.

HOW TO GET TO KATHERINE GORGE
Most travellers access the Katherine Region by road, on either of our major Tourist Drives. The Explorers Way follows the Stuart Highway from Darwin in the Top End, south to the Barkly Region and Central Australia. The Savannah Way links Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, following the Carpentaria Highway to the East, and the Victoria Highway through the western reaches of our Region.
